No Superman for Rocksteady.. or is there more to it?

In the space of a week we went from new rumours that Rocksteady was definitely developing a Superman game to an announcement that they are most certainly not.

As a massive fan of the character since I was a small boy I couldn’t have been happier with the original news. Seeing my hero in the hands of the crew that brought us the greatest superhero video game series of all time (Batman: Arkham) was exactly the right choice.

That game series redefined the character in much the same way that the Batman: Animated Series did in the 90’s. It also paved the way for a gritty fighting game set in an alternate DC universe with “Injustice” and that was a game that showed us what Superman could be like.

Superman games up until now are mostly rubbish. I mean I’ve played them all to death out of shear love of the IP but nothing until now has captured the essence of the character. Even the previously mentioned Injustice was an alternate “evil” version of the character so we’ve never seen the red and blue boy scout version done in a way that is both modern and relatable.

looks like the hope of that being with Rocksteady is all but dead in the water.

Sefton Hill, co-founder and creative director at Rocksteady Studios shot the rumors down in this tweet

Looking forward to #TheGameAwards this year! We’re still hard at work in our development bunker so don’t expect an announcement from @Rocksteadygames. When it’s ready to show, you’ll be the first to know. Spoiler: it’s not Superman ?— Sefton Hill (@Seftonhill) November 30, 2018

wait.. He says the announcement isn’t about Superman, that could mean they are working on a Superman game and are just not ready to show anything yet.

Just like the big “S” on the chest of the Man of Steel it stands for hope, and that is what we can hang on to. It’s not over yet!
