Sony Pictures’ live-action adaptation of “The Legend of Zelda” is officially set to hit theaters on March 26, 2027, just one week after the highly anticipated release of “Sonic the Hedgehog 4” so it’s going to be a massive time for video game adaptations in cinemas.
Wes Ball, known for his work on “The Maze Runner” and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” is set to direct the film. Originally announced in November 2023, the project is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Nintendo, with both companies co-financing the production.
So far, no casting or plot details have been revealed. While fans continue to speculate on who might play the iconic role of Link, no official candidates have emerged.
The film boasts a powerhouse production team led by “Zelda” series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who joins forces with producers Avi Arad, Wes Ball, and Joe Hartwick Jr.
In recent years Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment found massive global success with “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which grossed over $1.3 billion. Now, all eyes will be on “The Legend of Zelda” to see if it will replicate the same level of box office magic.
