The latest Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is here and it’s a return to form for a game that’s missed the mark on several recent occasions.
The campaign mode is where the game has evolved the most, offering more outcomes of choice than ever before and set against an action packed 90’s spy thriller theme that’s extremely compelling.
You do play as several characters that gives the game versatility but a majority of Black Ops 6 you are William “Case” Calderon where you set out to save the world in an global spy thriller that borders on science fiction and fantasy with its themes of mind control.
The major celebrity cameo for this incarnation of the game is the immortal Lou Diamond Philips who most people will remember from “La Bamaba” but I’ll always associate with the “Young Guns” movies and “Stargate Universe”. To be fair to his career though, he’s been in anything and everything and always adds to the project. It’s no different here as his comanding presence is felt in Black Ops 6.
Multiplayer should almost be treated as a seperate commentary, although it’s equally as good. The gunplay is tweeked in all the right ways giving more balance and an abundace of weapons the choose from.
In Black Ops 6 there are 16 new maps at launch, with 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
Unlocking extras is all part of the multiplayer grind. It’s basically playing it quite safe overall by not going too big on changes to the experience but the small changes making it new enough to warrant its existence.
After a few false starts in the Call of Duty franchise its great to see the game getting back to its best with a campaign worthy of playing and a multiplayer system that shows why the game has been the king of shooters for such a long time. Special mention to the new user interface that brings all the games together under one banner. Oh and for keeping the install at a fairly resonable size, by COD standards anyway.
