You might recognise the name Obsidian as the team behind the much loved “Fallout: New Vegas” and games like “Pillars of Eternity”. Well it looks like they are putting that magic touch on a new game IP that we had previously never even heard was in development.
This has that Fallout humor and RPG style mixed with a “bioshock” style retro-futuristic outer space adventure.
The team have given and official description that reads:
“In The Outer Worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.”
Everyone is talking about how this game seemingly came out of nowhere which is such a pleasant surprise in today’s hyper spoiler environment and given that the company was recently acquired by Microsoft it’s a surprise to see this game listed for PS4 as I thought we’d see this as a PC and Xbox exclusive. Especially since the lack of exclusives is something that Xbox was criticised of in 2018.
It’s gone a long way to making this one of the most anticipated games of next year already.
