One of the biggest reveals at Gamescon 2025 came from Game Science, the studio behind the critically acclaimed and Game of the Year-nominated “Black Myth: Wukong.”
The developer has confirmed the release of a sequel called “Black Myth: Zhong Kui,” a new single-player RPG adventure. This time, players will step into the role of Zhong Kui, a legendary ghost-hunting deity who journeys through the realms of Heaven and Hell.
No ghosts walked the earth till born of human heart;
Onstage and off, immortals fall to fiends—their perfected art.
Indoors and out, the judge is bound by the same household ties;
The sun is veiled, the moon unmoved—who decrees who lives and who dies?
I turn from worldly tangles and their codes, from glories smeared with sleight.
I raise my sword—I raise it to fight;
With it, I shall judge wrong and right!
The announcement follows the massive success of “Black Myth: Wukong,” which has sold over 25 million copies since its launch last year. With such impressive sales and a growing fanbase, Game Science is doubling down on its efforts to deliver another groundbreaking experience.
In a statement shared on their official website, Game Science thanked players for their support, saying:
“Thanks to the unwavering support from our players, the first ‘Black Myth’ title has landed safely. After completing the journey with the Destined One, we now aim to take a bold step forward, creating unique gameplay experiences, challenging ourselves with innovative features, and introducing new ideas to our storytelling and world design.”
The studio also shared insight into the inspiration for the sequel:
“‘Zhong Kui’ felt like a natural choice, born from our aspirations and other contributing factors. With this new project, we’re confident we can bring refreshing changes, push innovation further, and improve upon past mistakes.
Although “Black Myth: Zhong Kui” is still in early development, the announcement was accompanied by a stunning pre-rendered cinematic trailer. No in-game footage has been shown yet, but fans can expect more updates as development progresses, in the meantime.. how do they make it look so good?
