The Last of Us Part 2 is finally here on PC, and it couldn’t have come at a better time, with excitement building for season two of the hit HBO series! Whether you’re revisiting Ellie and Abby’s intense story or experiencing it for the first time, this version brings exciting updates, despite a few bumps along the way.
A Polished Experience with Fresh Features
This new PC release offers an improved and feature-rich version of the game. I was provided a steam key for review and although I expected stunning graphics, I got a whole lot more with extra ultrawide and HDR support, plus detailed accessibility options like descriptive audio and the unique “speech to vibrations” setting for DualSense controllers.
There’s also a brand-new “No Return” mode, a roguelite experience focused on strategic combat and creative resource management. It’s a challenge that almost steals the show.. almost.
Spectacular Storytelling
As far as cinematic gaming goes, The Last of Us titles steal the show, Part 2 delivers some controversial moments and I am torn with how I feel about them, but at the end of the day they are decisons that are not mine to make, just to experience and that’s what they want to do, push us and our feelings towards the characters.
The game pairs breathtaking visuals with incredible performances and a haunting score. From heart-racing escapes through zombie hordes to carefully designed combat mechanics, every moment feels alive and intense. The sound design, especially in stealth sections, is a standout that raises the tension as danger closes in.
Although the main attraction is the story, it is enhanced by the game’s exceptional performances and detailed environments. Whether it’s the snowy landscapes or overgrown city ruins, every scene is as memorable as it is immersive.
Some Rough Edges
Performance-wise, the PC port had its ups and downs. While the improvements over the first game’s initial PC launch are clear, you might encounter occasional stutters and texture glitches, especially in dense areas. The day one patch addressed a lot of these issues, but some patience may still be required for future patches so keep an eye out to gain the smoothest experience.
Worth the Wait
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on PC is worth exploring for both longtime fans and newcomers who have eagerly been waiting for the ultimate version on PC. The combination of stunning visuals, intense gameplay, and thought-provoking storytelling makes it a unique and unforgettable experience.
Now, for those looking to fill the wait before the HBO show’s return, this game is exactly how that story should be experience, just be prepared that it will spoil what is to come in the show, and by spoil I mean tell the story in an even more immersive way, so choose carefully how you want to experience what will be a life changing moment.
