Rage 2 is a Sequel I Didn’t Think We’d Ever Get

When Rage 1 came out in 2010 I remember being very excited because when it was announced at Quakecon it was thought to be the evolutionary successor to Doom.

Set in a post appocaliptic near future after the world is virtually destroyed by an asteroid, you play Nicholas Raine who was safe in an underground bunker in hibernation. It all sounded very “Fallout” and “Borderlands” but no one cared because it was ID and they could do no wrong. I mean a first person ultra violent shooter with a “Mad Max” inspired setting.. what could go wrong right?

Although the games reviews were fairly positive and won several awards it wasn’t considered a great game. I mean I played it and loved it as I’m sure many people did. The shooter part of the game was outstanding, the story was right up my alley, the driving was questionable but playable. Most of the negativity around the game actually came from the repetative nature of the title. You were constantly going over the same ground with slight differences clearly not enough to satisfy some gamers.

So here we are 9 years later and we are staring down the barrel of a sequel finally. I know there will be some people that may decide to give this game a miss. Especially in a year where we are also expecting a promising looking Borderlands and where we have just been burnt by the worst Fallout game ever built. But I urge you to give this a go, I’ve pre-ordered mine and can’t wait to get back into one of the most explosive, chaotic worlds where enemies don’t just move from A to B they feel alive, crazy and extremely difficult.

The other bonus is that it’s a completely single player game, there will be some form of multiplayer that we don’t know the details of yet, but this is FPS at its core. Not being dropped into a zone to fight for survival but a good old fashion story driven action title.

Just like the good ol’ days.

Rage 2 comes out May 14th 2019 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
