PlayStation Exclusive “Saros” is Announced at State of Play

Housemarque, the studio behind the award-winning Returnal, is back with an exciting announcement. Following their success, the team has revealed their next ambitious project—a single-player action game called Saros.

Although we are looking at a glimpse of this unique world we can already see how it builds upon their rich legacy of crafting immersive third-person action games with mysterious and emotional storytelling.

From Returnal to Saros: A New Chapter

After the success of Returnal, Housemarque’s team knew they had created something special, but they wanted their next chapter to explore fresh terrain. That’s where Saros comes in.

Set on the haunting off-world colony of Carcosa—covered by an ominous eclipse—Saros promises a gripping narrative centred on a deep character study. You’ll step into the boots of Arjun Devraj, a Soltari Enforcer determined to stop at nothing to complete his mission.

The narrative revolves around exploring the cost of building a new future while delivering the cinematic storytelling players have come to expect from Housemarque.

Rahul Kohli Brings Arjun Devraj to Life

One of the standout pieces of information revealed in my opinion is its protagonist, Arjun, brought to life by the talented Rahul Kohli who you might know from TV shows like the brilliant “Midnight Mass” and “The Fall of the House of Usher”, but I will always associate him best from the underrated show “iZombie” where he played Ravi.

He’s no stranger to games either appearing in Rage 2, Gears 5, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, Fortnite, Like a Dragon: Ishin!, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical and Call of Duty Modern Warefare III.

The team spoke highly of Rahul’s performance, describing it as “stunning” and praising his contributions both on and off-screen. Kohli’s portrayal promises to add depth and nuance to Arjun’s gripping story.

What to Expect from Gameplay

If you’ve played Returnal, you already know Housemarque’s knack for crafting challenging and dynamic gameplay. However, Saros takes things in a bold new direction.

Here’s what to expect with Sarost:

“A key gameplay distinction between Saros and Returnal is permanent resources and progression making every death valuable. After every death you will face a changed world, but in Saros you will be able to choose and permanently upgrade your loadout from an evolving set of weapons and suit upgrades to “come back stronger” to overcome the challenges you face on Carcosa.” – Gregory Louden (Creative Director, Housemarque)

Players can expect a visually stunning environment in Carcosa. From its eerie atmosphere under an eclipse to its dynamic world design, Housemarque hinted that they’re pushing the PlayStation 5 hardware further than ever and will be using the potential of the PS5 Pro.

Housemarque is keeping much of Saros under wraps for now, but there’s plenty to look forward to. We can expect more information on the story, new characters, and gameplay innovations in the coming months.

We can look forward to the first extended gameplay reveal later this year with the game release slated for 2026.
