The premium smart lighting company Nanoleaf are back with a new design that blends a little bit of their classic look and feel with a very practical wall display solution, introducing Nanoleaf Blocks.
I’ve always been impressed with the products that Nanoleaf put out there, they are constantly innovating in really unique ways. From the original Hexagons to the unique woodgrain elements range, to the lines and even the not so standard smart bulb. But now they’ve released lighting that has another more practical purpose.
Nanoleaf Blocks Comba Smarter Kit allows you to build a usable shelf space that lights up the room in only the way that Nanoleaf can by using a combination of modular light panels with pegboards and shelves that can be set up in any formation.
This takes the wall space from just being a pretty thing to look at to an actual practical space for you to display your favourite game controller, Funko Pop, action figure or plant.
As usual the panels can be displayed in any way you can make them fit with some impressive creations making their way onto various social channels. Shelves over monitor displays, or around gaming consoles seem to be the most common but I’ve seen a few that really show a unique touch.
The surprise for me when setting up the display was seeing that the pegboard itself is illuminated. When I first heard that Nanoleaf was creating this product I just assumed that it would be lit from the other panels, that was an idea that just stuck with me and made me think, “why wouldn’t I just get the ikea boards and put my current Nanoleaf lights around that”. Having the pegboards illuminated makes all the difference creating a better artistic flow for the space as you program your lights to react the way you want via the app.
The size of these panels also work in their favour, they seem to diffuse the light better than other products allowing for a better more defined display that also looks really good in the background of your live stream.
Using the app you can use the multiple features of the device, like sound reactivity, setting up themes or even syncing your lights to display the colours coming from your TV shows or video games that you are playing.

As the product is required to hold items on shelves or on the pegboard there is a slight difference to setting it up. Previously I’d been able to use just the mounting tape to hold the lights on the wall without the need to screw in the device. However with the blocks it is important to note that the pegboards and shelves do need to be screwed into the wall. It’s a slightly more time consuming process but compared to the overall safety of your device and whatever you are displaying it’s totally worth it.
The Nanoleaf Blocks are a really nice addition to the smart lighting companies family of products. It feels like the product has more purpose than anything that has come before it and I can see it quickly being adopted by gamers globally as a way to show off their unique personalities.
