LEGO Horizon Adventures brings the post-apocalyptic world of Aloy to life in a delightfully unexpected way, blending the serious tone of the original Horizon games with the playful charm of LEGO. Players embark on a colourful quest as Aloy, leading a band of heroes against the sun-worshipping followers of Helis and an Ancient Evil. The contrast between the typically grave Horizon narrative and LEGO’s signature humor creates a unique and entertaining experience.
While the game doesn’t have the same depth of lore as other LEGO adaptations like Batman or the Marvel games, it compensates with its stunning recreation of Horizon’s world using LEGO bricks. The developers have ingeniously repurposed familiar LEGO City sets to craft the broken-down, post-apocalyptic landscape. This clever design choice serves as both a nostalgic treat for LEGO fans and a faithful representation of Horizon’s distinctive environments, from lush forests to treacherous mountains and mysterious underground locations.
One of the game’s standout features is its attention to detail in recreating Horizon’s iconic machines and creatures using LEGO bricks. These intricate designs showcase the developers’ creativity and add an extra layer of charm to the already visually impressive world. As you explore, you’ll encounter numerous easter eggs from Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbiden West that are cleverly integrated into the game’s landscape.
LEGO Horizon Adventures offers a variety of gameplay options to suit different preferences. Players can tackle Aloy’s journey solo or team up with friends through local couch co-op or online multiplayer. The game also incorporates classic LEGO elements, allowing players to customize their home base and uncover secrets about Aloy’s mysterious past, adding depth to the overall experience.
Strange sidenote for you, when I first loaded LEGO Horizon Adventures I was met with a menu asking if I would prefer Fidelity or Performance. That felt weird to me for the modern PS5 given that this is only a “LEGO” game and I didn’t see anything throughout my adventure that would warrent that kind of hinderance on the console. At the same time, I’ve always enjoyed the LEGO style and graphics in all of their games, it just doesnt come across as terribly hardware intensive, so I’m curious about that option.
