Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a thrilling adventure that breathes new life into the beloved franchise in a way that the last two movies have failed to. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a “Dial of Destiny” hater, I just didn’t have the same connection to it that I did the original trilogy, especially “Temple of Doom”.
Set in 1937 between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, the game offers a first-person hybrid cinematic experience that captures the essence of classic Indy adventures.
The game stands out with its innovative gameplay mechanics, blending stealth, puzzle-solving, and exploration. Players can interact with almost any object, using Indy’s iconic whip for climbing, combat, and puzzle-solving. The first-person perspective adds an immersive layer, making players feel like they’re truly experiencing Indiana Jones’ world.
In-fact, in many ways it borrows traits from the now retro-Lucusfilm games. Yes I know they weren’t perfect, but at the time they were what we had and I have fond memories of playing games like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

The combat system is versatile and engaging, allowing players to use their fists, improvised weapons, and Indy’s trusty revolver, bullets are scarce, so spend time learning the other combat techniques. The game encourages creative problem-solving, with multiple paths to objectives and a focus on environmental interaction. Stealth mechanics add depth to gameplay, with disguises and careful navigation playing crucial roles.
Story & Characters
The story is compelling, featuring a globetrotting quest to uncover the mystery of the Great Circle, with a truly memorable antagonist in Emmerich Voss portrayed brilliantly by Marios Gavrilis and a standout companion in journalist Gina Lombardi voiced by the talented Alessandra Mastronardi. The game expertly balances action, wit, and archaeological intrigue, staying true to the character’s roots while offering a fresh experience.
This is Indiana Jones
I’ll be the first to admit that I just couldn’t see an Indy project that wasn’t Harrison Ford. But bringing on Troy Baker to play the role was a masterclass move. An experienced voice over actor, Baker has built up the rugged rogue persona over the years through playing characters like Joel in “The Last of Us”, Booker DeWitt in “Bioshock Infinite” and Samuel Drake in the “Uncharted” series that is often compared to Indiana Jones.
His portrayal of the iconic character has enough “Harrison Ford-isms” without being an impression. Baker is playing the character, not the actor making choices that offer nostalgia but at the same time delivering something new. It’s because of this game the impossible is possible and I’m now firmly in the camp of believing that the films could continue with a new actor playing the part.
Visuals & Sound
The stunning locations really add so much to the experience, from Vatican City to Egypt. The game’s cinematography perfectly captures the epic feel of the first three films, with a grand, sweeping soundtrack by Gordy Haab that enhances the authentic Indy experience.
Puzzles & Exploration
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle features intricate puzzles and a gameplay style that encourages improvisation. The game’s semi-open world areas are designed to reward curiosity, with hidden collectibles and side quests that complement the main adventure.
Amazing Attention to Detail
MachineGames has shown great respect for the source material, incorporating numerous references and Easter eggs that will delight fans of the franchise. The game’s writing and humor are spot-on, capturing the essence of Indiana Jones’ character.
