I still remember the smell of the plastic when I cracked open those first shipments of the original PlayStation back in the mid-90s. I was working at a games store at the time, and trying to explain to customers that we were moving from cartridges to these “futuristic” shiny discs felt like selling a piece of the next century. I spent my days pitching the revolution and my nights lost in Tomb Raider and Wipeout.
Since those early shop-floor days, I’ve been right there with you. We’ve seen the leap from jagged polygons to the hyper-realism of today. But for the first time in thirty years, PlayStation isn’t just asking us to play their stories, they are offering you the chance to become part of the lore.
A Career Highlight (Without the Name Tag)
PlayStation Australia has just unveiled The Playerbase, and it feels like the ultimate “thank you” for those of us who have been holding a controller since the “Startup Sound” first gave us goosebumps. They are looking for one dedicated fan to skip the character-creator sliders and actually have their real-life likeness scanned into the PlayStation universe.

The program is kicking off with Gran Turismo 7. If you’ve spent your life chasing the perfect line through a corner, imagine this: instead of a generic driver avatar, you’ll be immortalised as an in-game character portrait. You’ll be integrated into the world of GT7 with the same level of prestige as the legends of the track. After a lifetime of selling the dream and playing the dream, you could finally be the dream.

From the Shop Floor to a Studio in LA
This isn’t a simple photo upload. If your story resonates, you’re headed to a professional visual arts studio in Los Angeles. This is the big leagues, a full scanning session to ensure your digital self is as accurate as the cars on the grid.
But because PlayStation knows we’re more than just a face, you’ll also get to leave a creative mark. You’ll collaborate with their designers to create:

- Your own Fantasy Logo: A personal brand that lives within the game.
- A one-of-a-kind Vehicle Livery: A permanent design in the Showcase menu for the whole world to drive.
It’s a long way from the retail counter where I used to hand over those grey consoles, isn’t it?
How You Can Join the Grid
Whether you were there on day one like me, or you joined the family later, PlayStation wants to hear about your journey. They aren’t looking for a “target demographic”, they’re looking for a person with a genuine connection to the brand.
To apply, you’ll need to head to the official site, log in with your PlayStation ID, and share your history. Tell them about the late nights, the trophies, and maybe even the games you used to sell back in the day. If you make it to the final round, you’ll join a video interview to chat about what PlayStation means to you.
It’s kinda cool that PlayStation is acknowledging that while the hardware is the engine, your face is the soul of the machine.
